E. Islip, NY: The LIUSBC is saddened to learn of the passing of Harold C. Cooley Jr. who passed away on December 18, 2020. Harold was the legendary East Islip High School Varsity Girls bowling team coach since 1985 and a dominant figure in high school sports. The longtime coach died from complications of a stroke at the age of 66. Harold, who was an East Islip middle-school math teacher for 34 years, coached multiple high school teams including football, baseball, golf, and bowling. He is best known for his phenomenal success with the East Islip Girls varsity bowling team.

January 3rd, 2021 Dear LIUSBC members: Sadly, I am writing you this evening to let you know of the passing of long-time association manager, Jim Maguire, this past Friday. Mr. Maguire or “Dad” as I referred to him was not only a mentor to me personally but a friend to all of us in the bowling community. Locally, Mr. Maguire served as the Association Manager for the former Eastern Long Island and Long Island Youth Bowling Associations. In 2007, when the local associations were discussing a merger, Mr. Maguire was a settling influence and an integral part of the transition

NEW NYS COVID-19 RULES FORCE BOWLING CENTERS TO CLOSE BY 10PM

Centereach, NY: Governor Cuomo announced starting today, Friday, November 13, 2020, any business owning a New York State liquor license must be closed to the public by 10pm. This includes bowling centers which must turn off their machines by the 10pm deadline. The 10pm deadline must be followed for the next 30 days. The USBC has no specific rules regarding this type of situation but suggests the following: If possible, leagues should start earlier to guarantee they finish by 10pm Contingency plans should be in place if some teams have not completed their league session by the 10pm deadline. Mineola, NY: The LIUSBC recently presented a 300 ring to Philip Grimes from Woodside, NY at Bowlero Mineola (formerly Sheridan Lanes).  What makes this presentation so special is Phil, who is 76 years old, bowled his first 300 game after competing in leagues for over 40 years and was a pin boy in his early years. Congratulations Phil on your perfection! The Department of Health’s (DOH) Interim Guidance for Sports and Recreation during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency has been updated to provide the below guidance for bowling centers and alleys.
