Champion Phil Rubinson with Winner’s Check

April 25, 2021

East Islip, NY: Phil Rubinson, W. Babylon, NY, won LIUSBC’s inaugural Drop Your Low Game Tournament featuring a $1,000 top prize. Phil won the event by defeating 3 other bowlers in the final shootout. The other shootout finalists were 2nd place finisher James Marchese, W. Islip, NY earning $525. Third place went to Sun Kim, Flushing, NY earning $300 and fourth went to Pete Zervakos, Wheatly Heights, NY earning $250.

The final shootout, which featured the top 2 from each qualifying squad, was not decided until the final frame. Sun Kim, who was getting the most handicap, had the early lead as he marked in his first 7 frames but a missed spare in the 8th cost him a chance at the title. Pete bowled well but three open frames hurt his title chances. James could not carry the 10-pin early but after he changed balls, he struck out from the 6th frame on. This forced Phil to throw a double in the tenth and he performed like a champion and threw all 3 strikes to claim the title.

The Drop Your Low Game Tournament was a success as 69 entries competed for over $3,100 in prize money. There was a total of 15 cashers earning a minimum of $75. The two squad leaders, James Marchese and Sun Kim both earned Motiv bowling balls.

The LIUSBC’s next event is a Mixed and Over/Under Doubles tournament on Sunday, May 16th at AMF Wantagh. For information on LIUSBC events, and to view the results from the Drop Your Low Game Tournament, please visit www.liusbc.com.
