New Hyde Park, NY: Tom Grecula, a 39-year old right-hander from Maspeth, NY, won the $1,000 top prize at LIUSBC’s 700 Club Tournament hosted by Herrill Lanes. Tom won this prestigious event by defeating 26-year old left-hander Jeremy Milito, Holbrook, NY, 248-242. Jeremy, who bowled a perfect 900 series last season, earned $600 for finishing second. Rounding out the top 4 was third place finisher Tom McNally, Greenlawn, NY with a 223 worth $400 and fourth place finisher Rich Glinnen, Bayside, NY with a 222 worth $300.

The 700 Club final shootout was an exciting match with the champion not decided until the final frame. There were a ton of strikes as 3 of the 4 finalists had 5 in a row at some point in the match. Going into the final frame Tom G. needed a mark to shut out Jeremy who threw a double in the 10th to force the mark. When Tom converted the 7-pin he needed just 5 pins to lock up the title. A final strike secured the $1,000 title.

The 700 Club Tournament featured 4 qualifying squads with the top 4 advancing to a 16-bowler match play final. Scoring on the house shot was high with cuts ranging from 726 to 755. In addition to the 16 finalists there were another 7 cashers earning $50 each. Total prize fund payout was $4,550.

The 700 Club tournament also offered a bonus to the top 2 women. Christina Schulze, W. Babylon, NY shot the high women series with a 664 worth $200. Second place in the women’s bonus was Diana Walters, Mastic Beach, NY with a 584 worth $100.  In a separate optional senior prize list Tom McNally won the $250 top prize with a 794 series. Finishing second was Joe Scianna, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY with a 764.
