ALEX HENRY WINS 2019 L.I. MASTERSApril 7, 2019
W. Babylon, NY: Alex Henry, a 21 year old 2-handed bowler from Sayville, NY, won the prestigious 2019 Long Island Masters. In the final match Alex, who went undefeated, beat Drew Esposito, Selden, NY 226-224 to win the $4,000 top prize. Drew, who lost to Alex in the last match of the winner's bracket 205-197, earned $2,000 for second place. Finishing is third place was last year's champion Matt Farber, Plainview, NY earning $1,500. Rounding out the top 4 was Rob Gotterbarn, Garden City South, NY earning $1,000. The Long Island Masters always attracts the finest bowlers from the area and the 2019 version was no exception. A custom 43 foot Kegel pattern was put down which produced top 8 cut scores of: 1313 at 10am, 1260 at 2:30pm and 1246 at 7pm. High series of the tournament was shot by Joe Costanzo with a 1474 in the 10am squad. The overall cut, which takes all of the bowlers that didn't make the cut in their squad and advances the top 8, was 1258. The Long Island Masters, which is owned and operated by LIUSBC, has a long history of producing great champions. The top 10 finishers were all in their 20's validating the strong youth program that exists on Long Island. There were 5 seniors and 2 women that also advanced. Total payout for the L.I. Masters was $17,700. A special thanks to CLS Custom Upholsterers, R&D Bowling Supplies and AMF Babylon for supporting the Long Island Masters
